Bulgaria’s trade balance in 2018 is negative

Between January and November 2018 Bulgaria’s exports to the EU rose 9.5% year on year to over EUR 17.9 billion, data of the National Statistical Institute show. Germany Italy, Romania, Greece, France and Belgium were biggest EU importers of Bulgarian produce- 67.5% of Bulgaria’s export to the European Union was to these six countries. Meanwhile, imports from the EU increased with 6.8% to over EUR 18.8 billion. Bulgaria’s exports to non-EU countries saw a double-digit decrease (12.5%) to nearly EUR 9 billion. Turkey, China, Serbia, the USA, North Macedonia and Russia were the biggest non-EU importers of Bulgarian produce- 52.6% of Bulgaria’s total exports to non-EU countries. Bulgaria’s total export from January until November last year increased with 1.2% to EUR 28.3 billion. The total imports rose 6.3% to EUR 32,184 billion. Bulgaria’s foreign trade balance is negative to the tune of EUR 1.655 billion.
