The news content at the Bulgarian radio stations decrease at the expense of the music content. 30.5% of the airtime consisted of news in 2012 whereas five years later 26.3% of the radio programme consisted of news broadcasts. Several years ago 43.5% of the airtime consisted of music broadcast and now its share reaches 49.9%. The number of licensed radio broadcasters fell from 87 to 85 in the same period. However, the broadcast time increased with 66.522 hours. In 2017 all radio stations in Bulgaria broadcasted 723,555 hours of total programmng. The data was published by the National Statistical Institute on occasion of the World Radio Day marked on February 13.
