Rila National Park marks its 27th anniversary

The Directorate of Rila National Park marks 27 years since the park was declared a protected territory. It is located in the central and highest regions of Rila Mountain on 81.046 hectares of land. Rila National Park was established on February 24, 1992 to protect the self-regulating ecosystems and biodiversity and preserve the habitats of rare and endangered species and communities, as well as the typical landscapes and landmarks of world cultural and scientific significance.
On occasion of the anniversary the Regional Historical Museum in Blagoevgrad launched Days of Rila National Park. On February 22 experts from the park’s directorate and experts from nature department with the Blagoevgrad Historical Museum will acquaint guests and fans of nature with the biodiversity, the water resources and the forests in Bulgaria’s biggest national park. During the weekend, the visitor centers of Rila National Park in Panichishte and Samokov will be open from 9.30 am until 5 pm. People can learn there interesting facts about this protected area.
