We are the most disciplined and loyal members of NATO, said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov after a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.
“We didn’t discuss energy projects,” Borissov added, and stressed that Stoltenberg was in Sofia at his invitation, extended months ago, before there was any information of a visit to this country by the Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.
Jens Stoltenberg on his part pointed out that in an increasingly unpredictable world it is essential to be more effective against the various challenges presenting themselves, and that includes the breach of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) by Russia. We do not want another Cold War and we urge Russia to observe the treaty, Jens Stoltenberg said and added that security must be invested in, and that he welcomed the fact that Bulgaria had started investing more in defence. The NATO Secretary-General thanked Bulgaria for its contribution to security, its participation in different NATO missions, and its strategic role in the region of the Black Sea.
