“Without the participation of the Russian constructor and manufacturer of the equipment for the Belene NPP, there is no way the project can be carried out. For this reason one of the conditions to future investors in the nuclear capacity is for Rosatom to be involved in the project,” commented Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova. “We are yet to find out whether there will be a Belene nuclear power plant. I fervently hope that the procedure will be completed successfully because the project is important to us, but also to the region,” Minister Petkova said one day after the launch of the procedure for finding a strategic investor for the project.

Preliminary interest in constructing a second nuclear power plant in Bulgaria has so far been displayed by the China National Nuclear Corporation, the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and the French Areva.
