Rosatom is considering the possibility of participating in the construction of Belene nuclear power plant, provided Bulgaria guarantees that the future MPP will generate profit, Rosatom’s Director General Alexey Likhachev said. The project cannot be completed successfully without the participation of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev commented. The future Belene NPP has the potential to sell electricity in Bulgaria and the region, Rosatom’s Director General Likhachev further said. Bulgaria is hoping to build the nuclear power plant for EUR 9-10 billion in eight to ten years. The potential investors are required to use the nuclear equipment that was already delivered to Bulgaria. Moreover, Bulgaria will not extend state guarantees to the investors.
