Bulgarian National Assembly President, Tsveta Karayancheva, has discussed the role of public media in Bulgaria and in the EU as a whole with President of the European Broadcasting Union and BBC Director General, Tony Hall. Pointing out their extremely important cultural, educational and public functions, Karayancheva confirmed the commitment of Bulgarian legislators to guarantee public media's independence and put a focus on the fight against fake news. Lord Tony Hall pointed out the need to invest in qualification and training of journalists working in public media. The two agreed that the high expectations towards public service media could be met only through joint action between them and the legislative and executive powers.
