Their purpose is to find out whether some farmers receive subsidies for non-existent animals. Such animals are registered with fake ear tags. According to the National Association of Sheep Breeders in Bulgaria, at least 30% of the Bulgarian sheep and goats exist virtually only. The Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Food promises that the check will obliterate all possible frauds this time.
