The situation with the overflowing dam near Strazhitsa is now under control and there is no danger for the population, the district governor of Veliko Tarnovo Prof. Lubomira Popova has announced. She added that the wall of the Zelenchukov Dol Dam near Strazhitsa broke but the waters of the dam have leaked to the neighboring fields, which prevented more serious damage. The water level in the neighboring Cesme Dere Dam near the village of Kamen, is also under control, it was reported. The reason for the critical situation is the intense rainfall, which reached 120 liters per square meter in the region during the night. Because of new rainfalls expected in Strazhitsa municipality, the declared emergency situation remains in force.
