Currently, only 454 people are accommodated at refugee centers in Bulgaria, which is only 9% of their total capacity, sources of the State Agency for Refugees announced. In 2019 the number of foreign national who applying for international protection decreased. The information of the State Agency for Refugees come against the backdrop of increased concerns that due to Turkey’s military operations in Syria against the Kurds a new migration wave towards the EU through Bulgaria may occur. Bulgaria’s President Rumen radev warned that in the event of a sudden migration pressure Bulgaria will not be able to deal with the situation on its own.
