GERB wins in the big cities, run-off elections to be held in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia

GERB party won the local elections held yesterday in Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, Vratsa, Gabrovo and Stara Zagora at the first round. In Kardzhali the current mayor Hasan Azis from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms earned a categorical victory. Run-off elections will be held in Sofia, Plovdiv, Lovech, Blagoevgrad, Sliven, Ruse, Smolyan, Pleven and other cities. By 7 am, 20% of the electoral protocols were processed in Sofia. The current mayor Yordanka Fandakova earns 36.34% of the votes. The independent candidate Maya Manolova, supported by the Bulgarian Socialist Party, earns 26.73% of the votes.

The current mayor of Nesebar municipality Nikolay Dimitrov who was detained over alleged vote-buying earned a categorical victory in competition with Atanas Terziev nominated by GERB party.
