On November 1, Bulgaria celebrates the Day of National Revival Leaders. It is dedicated to the work of writers, spiritual enlighteners, and fighters for Bulgaria’s national liberation, who helped in preserving the spiritual values of the nation and its morals over the centuries. Among the Bulgarians whose memory we honor are Paisius of Hilendar (1722 - 1773), who in 1762 wrote "Slavic-Bulgarian History" - the first National Revival work of Bulgarian historiography, St. Ivan Rilski (876 - 946). ), revered as the patron saint of Bulgaria, writer Ivan Vazov (1850 - 1921), called by the people "the Patriarch of Bulgarian literature" and others. Traditionally, the national flag is hoisted in front of the presidency. The award Enlightener of the Year is also presented to a person selected from over 100 proposals for contemporary enlighteners made by the listeners of the BNR cultural and educational program "Hristo Botev".
