There are various reasons for the impunity of the attacks against journalists. These are the censorship in the media, the self-censorship of the media owners who are ready to dismiss even their best journalists to protect themselves from the authorities and the mafia, the pressure exerted on the free media, bribing media with money, including money from the EU, the concentration and the monopoly in the media sector, Bulgaria’s MEP Radan Kanev said. The debate was held late Wednesday at the European Parliament on occasion of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists.
