European Parliament urges Bulgaria to ratify Istanbul Convention

The European Parliament supported the adoption of the Istanbul Convention by the EU. 500 MEPs voted in favor, 91 MEPs voted against and 50 MEPs abstained. The document urges the EU member states which have signed but not ratified yet the convention, including Bulgaria, to do so without delay. Two Bulgarian MEPs voted in favor- Ilhan Kyuchyuk and Atidzhe Alieva-Veli from Renew Europe. Asim Ademov, Andrey Novakov, Alexander Yordanov from the European Peoples’ Party, Angel Dzhambazki and Andrey Slabakov from the European Conservatives and Reformists Group, Ivo Hristov, Tsvetelina Penkova and Petar Vitanov from the from the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats voted against. Radan Kanev, Andrey Kovatchev, Emil Radev and Eva Maydell from EPP as well as Elena Yoncheva and Sergei Stanishev from the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats abstained.
