Average monthly cost of living per capita in Bulgaria stands at EUR 322 in fourth quarter of 2019

EUR 1,287 is the average monthly cost of living of a four-member household (2 adults and 2 children) in Bulgaria, data of the Bulgarian labor unions about the last trimester of 2019 show. The cost of living per person amounts to EUR 322 on average. The net wage of each of the two adults in the family should amount to at least EUR 644 per month after taxes and social security contributions to reach the average cost of living per person. Data about the third quarter of 2019 show that the net average monthly salary in Bulgaria was to the tune of EUR 495, or 23% lower than the necessary salary that would cover the basic cost of living in this country. The regional imbalance in terms of GDP per capita remains. Bulgaria’s capital Sofia forms 40.4% of the total gross domestic product. Five districts-Sofia, Varna, Burgas, Stara Zagora and Plovdiv form two-thirds of the total GDP.
