Worries in Ireland because of Bulgarian seasonal workers

Photo: zname.bg

News that an Irish company has hired 189 seasonal workers from Bulgaria has sparked speculation about public health at the backdrop of quarantine against the coronavirus. Fruit company Keelings said that Bulgaria had few confirmed cases of infection, making it the country with the lowest number of Covid-19 infected patients in the EU. Before going to work, Bulgarians would go through a two-week quarantine and receive salaries, the company said. Despite the lack of Irish citizens willing to work as fruit pickers, the country's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Tony Holohan and Minister for Health Simon Harris, expressed doubts about transporting workers from other countries at the backdrop of the pandemic.
