President Rumen Radev greets Bulgarians on International Labour Day

In his official greeting address to the Bulgarians on the occasion of Labour Day, Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev said that "May 1 is not a gift but a conquest of the workers". The Bulgarian Head of State emphasized that the transition period in Bulgaria from Socialism to democracy has divided the nation into a handful of rich and a majority of poor people.

Hundreds of thousands of Bulgarians work abroad to feed their families, he added.
Last year, 89 Bulgarians died in workplace accidents, as working conditions in many enterprises are far from the required standards and in some professions and regions the pay is dramatically low, he stressed.

"In these difficult times, the International Day of Labour is an occasion for us to recall the power of solidarity," President Radev concluded in his address.
