Quality of rose plantations to be inspected during rose-picking season

During the rose-harvesting season, the Ministry of Agriculture for the first time will start identification of oil-bearing rose plantations in Bulgaria. The type of plantations will be checked to see how many of the areas are planted with the varieties of Rosa damascena and Rosa alba traditional for Bulgaria. Both varieties guarantee the preservation of the quality of the Bulgarian rose oil.

In recent years, there have been more cases in which farmers grow more productive varieties of uncertified planting material and this could compromise the quality of the country's traditional rose oil famous around the world, the agriculture ministry says.
