Scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences are working under 600 projects with foreign partners, the President of BAS Academician Julian Revalski pointed out in his 2019 report. The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences registered over 40 patents and 20 know-how models. The state subsidy for 2019 amounted to EUR 50 million. For the first time, the own revenues of BAS from participations in various projects exceeded the amount of the state subsidy. The number of students defending their PhD thesis has decreased, which is reason for concern. The number of full-time students also went down, Academician Revalski said further. Within 5 to 6 years the staff will retire and there is no one to replace them, BAS President Revalski said.
