Dobrudzha – rich in people and traditions

Photo: library

Known as the “Granary of Bulgaria”, in recent years the northeastern part of Bulgaria has been actively developing as a tourist destination. Apart from the Black Sea pearl of Dobrudzha – the resort of Albena, the region is rich in natural and historical landmarks, attractive for lovers of adventure and beautiful scenery. The rich fauna of the Danubian Plain is the other treasure that attracts travelers.

In recent years, rural tourism has been developing in the region, which is facilitated by the small pretty rural guest houses. One such house is located in the village of Bezmer, Tervel municipality, some 30 km away from the land border between Bulgaria and Romania. The village is inhabited by Bulgarians, Turks and Romani and for many years it has been an example of good cohabitation and tolerance among ethnic groups. In 1989, nearly 600 residents left it and moved to Turkey, while in later times the number of economic emigrants started growing. But there are enthusiasts who want to prove that Dobrudzha is alive and rich with its people and traditions.

Nevena Deneva from Bezmer is one of these people and Radio Bulgaria met you with her some time ago through the article Rediscovering Dobrudzha as Tourist Destination“Read it to learn more about the hospitality and way of life of the people of Dobrudzha.
