No radioactive waste is being incinerated in Bulgaria

The Minister of Environment Emil Dimitrov rejected as false information spread in social networks that hazardous waste from Great Britain was being incinerated in Devnya. No radioactive waste is incinerated in this country, the minister said at a press conference in Burgas. In Bulgaria, 50% of local and 50% of foreign waste can be burned.

The population should not be unnecessarily frightened. Over the years there has been only 1 case of hazardous waste in Bulgaria. Measures were taken accordingly and containers were returned to Italy. We cannot prohibit any EU country from importing, nor do they prohibit us from exporting waste, the Minister said.
