Only 5% of the real estate of Bulgarians is insured against natural disasters, BNR’s Horizont Programme has reported.
According to a study by the Association of Bulgarian Insurers, this is mainly due to lack of knowledge about the service, lack of trust and the idea of that this is expensive insurance. At their lowest levels, prices start at 5 to 10 euros per year, with different insurers.
Apart from home insurance, the state can also cover damages from disasters, but if it was established that this was due to the fault of the respective regional administration, which had not taken necessary measures to prevent possible damages, experts told BNR.
