Amendments to Electoral Code adopted by legal committee

Photo: library

The Legal Committee at the National Assembly has adopted the proposals of GERB for changes to the Electoral Code by 11 to 9 votes. The ruling party proposed amendments that provide for a majority election of half of the MPs from the Grand National Assembly, as well as providing the opportunity for machine voting in all sections with more than 300 voters. According to current regulations, the voting had to be done only by the use of machines.

The proposal for changes by the MRF, which provided for a change in the way polling stations were formed and dropping of "I do not support anyone" box from the ballots, was not supported.

Krum Zarkov of the BSP said that the Electoral Code proposed by GERB was culmination of carelessness, as the changes were proposed "when elections are already knocking on the door".

Amendments are yet to be discussed in plenary room.
