American F-16s to assist Bulgarian air force in air policing

Until October 30, American F-16 fighters will help the Bulgarian Air Force for air policing. The American allies will have no right to use weapons against violators of the Bulgarian airspace. The restriction has been imposed by a government decision published in the information system of the Council of Ministers, 24 Chassa daily reports.

Most often violators of the Bulgarian airspace are Russian planes that fly near the borders of the Bulgarian sky, turning off their transponders. Because of this tactic, which has been used for 10 years now, NATO has introduced joint patrols of Bulgarian, Romanian and Greek aircraft over the Black Sea.
