Nuclear energy should be part of the Green Deal: Bulgarian Atomic Forum

Photo: BGNES

In an open letter to Bulgarian and European institutions the Bulgarian Atomic Forum demands that nuclear energy be included in the EU Green Deal and be given financial support for its development, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reports.

The organization is demanding that the construction of reactors 1 and 2 of Belene NPP, and of reactors 7 and 8 of the existing Kozloduy NPP be incorporated into the country’s strategy.

Valentin Nikolov, chairman of the National Assembly’s energy committee pointed out that 2020 and 2021 are the most important years for Bulgaria because unless one of the projects is started the country will lose its nuclear industry altogether. Completing each of the new capacities takes at least 10 years, Nikolov added.
