The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology has declared a yellow code alert for heavy precipitation for 13 districts in Central and Eastern Bulgaria. In these areas there will be significant rainfall, which above an altitude of 1,000-1,100 metres will be mixed with snow. The amounts of rain will be from 25 to 30 litres per square metre, and in some places up to 50 litres per square metre, meteorologists report.

Traffic via the Rozhen and Prevala mountain passes has been limited due to heavy snowfall. That is why vehicles must move using chains, the Road Infrastructure Agency warns.
