Raccoons Pijo, Penda and Santino from the Nature and Animal Conservation Center in Dobrich began hibernating. The three raccoons are already huddled in a ball. As the weather gets colder, their metabolism slows down and they can be seen eating at most once a week. Santino needs to lose weight, said Director of the Nature and Animal Conservation Center Hristian Hristov.

The raccoon weighed 21 kilograms, but has managed to lose 4 kilos and now weighs 17 kg. His diet included beets, fish, fruits and vegetables. The raccoon needs to lose few more kilograms, the center’s director went on to say. He is hibernating in a chest under a shed, together with two female racoons. When the raccoons were vaccinated, one of them was identified as male by mistake and was named Pijo.
