Specially designated prosecutor will have authority to investigate Bulgaria's prosecutor general

A special prosecutor will have the capacity to investigate the activities of Bulgaria's chief prosecutor. This was finally decided by the majority in the National Assembly. All members of the Supreme Judicial Council will be able to make nominations for the new post, as the candidate will also be able to nominate himself, BNR reported.
The mandate of the special prosecutor will be 5 years. 
According to the Bulgarian Socialist Party, the new procedural figure is unnecessary, incomprehensible and will not be effective.
GERB explained that the changes were made in response to the recommendations from Brussels to Bulgaria for control over the possibility of exercising control over the activities of the Prosecutor General.
