Westinghouse Electric Sweden is conducting an analysis of the use of an alternative fuel type for Unit 5 of Kozloduy nuclear power plant. A contract to this effect was signed today in the presence of Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova, US ambassador Herro Mustafa and the ambassador of Sweden Katarina Rangnitt.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov stated that the possibility of the only Bulgarian NPP using American fuel, made in Sweden was one more step towards the country’s energy diversification, while Ambassador Herro Mustafa described it as a step that will ensure secure and diverse sources of energy supplies.

Kozloduy NPP currently works using fuel from the Russian corporation Rosatom.
