Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov has qualified for the quarterfinals of the Australian Open tennis championship after defeating last year's runner-up and third-seeded Dominic Thiem. Dimitrov defeated the Austrian player in three sets with 6:4, 6:4, 6:0 in almost two hours of play.

"It was one of the games you have to go through this season. Today was a day when everything worked out for me. I managed to stay focused because I played against an incredible opponent. I'm happy to reach the quarterfinals," said the winner.

For a place in the semifinals Grigor Dimitrov will play against Russian debutant qualifier Aslan Karatsev who eliminated Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime.
