Bulgarian government to pay additional EUR 61 to poorest pensioners in April

Photo: Library

Pensioners with the lowest pensions in Bulgaria will receive BGN 120 (EUR 61) for food from the Social Assistance Agency in April. This was decided by the Bulgarian government. The money is provided for people with pensions between the minimum pension and the official poverty line, or from 153 euros to 189 euros. This refers to nearly 392 thousand people.
Talking to the Bulgarian National Radio, the CITUB trade union members commented that regardless of whether this is a pre-election move or not, the poor needed this help, and pensioners asked why the government did not increase pensions instead of giving one-time benefits.
