A man and a woman have been detained on charges of manufacturing counterfeit euros and dollar bills and ID documents. The two worked at a university in Sofia, where the man worked as a printer on an employment contract. Authorities declined to specify the name of the university. It is now being clarified whether the university management knew about the illegal activity.
During the police operation, a total of USD 4 million and EUR 3.6 were discovered, as well as the machine with which they were printed.
According to investigators, the two detainees are part of a more serious scheme for exporting counterfeit currency to Ukraine and Western Europe, BNR reported.
