Bulgaria will withdraw its military units from Afghanistan. This was decided today at an extraordinary meeting of the Bulgarian Council of Ministers, PM Boyko Borissov announced via his Facebook account. The decision comes after it was announced yesterday that the United States and NATO would end the Resolute Support Mission in the Asian country.

According to NATO estimates, foreign troops should be withdrawn in stages from May 1st to early September. Currently, Bulgaria's 42nd contingent in Afghanistan numbers 117 people.

The first Bulgarian contingent for Afghanistan in a NATO mission was formed in February 2002.
