Tomorrow President Rumen Radev is to hand a mandate for the formation of a government to the nominee for prime minister of the second biggest parliamentary group in the 45th National Assembly, that of ITN (There Is Such a People).
On Monday ITN’s leader Slavi Trifonov announced on social media that “the party’s nomination for prime minister is world chess champion Antoaneta Stefanova” but expressly declared that she would instantly hand the mandate back. On Friday the first mandate for forming a cabinet was handed back by GERB-SDS.
After the refusal of the first two political forces in parliament to form a government, the President will have to choose a parliamentary group and hand it the third mandate – the last opportunity for the current parliament to form a cabinet. If this third and last attempt fails, President Radev will appoint a caretaker cabinet.
