Bulgaria’s outgoing Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense Krasimir Karakachanov called on President Rumen Radev to veto the amendments to this country’s Electoral Code.

Earlier today, the Bulgarian National Assembly adopted amendments to the Electoral Code, which remove the restriction on the number of polling stations in non-EU countries, including Turkey.

In an open letter, IMRO leader Karakachanov said that if these "anti-Bulgarian amendments" were not stopped, doubts would remain that Bulgaria’s President supported "convenient election rules". Currently there are over 350 thousand emigrants with Bulgarian citizenship in Turkey, reminded Krasimir Karakachanov. In his words, “these people are used by Turkey's authorities and its special services to interfere in Bulgaria’s domestic affairs”.
