Budget cut threatens public mission of Bulgarian National Radio

In an official letter, BNR Director General Andon Baltakov has called on parliament to change the text of the State Budget Act, allowing the government to cut funding for public radio. The budget of the Bulgarian National Radio for the current year has been reduced by about half a million euros with the last decree of the outgoing cabinet. Andon Baltakov points out that reduced financing can lead to reducing the operating costs of the radio and jeopardizing the implementation of its public mission. "Compensating for reduced financing could lead to job cuts or the inability of the BNR to service the rising costs of broadcasting, copyright and related rights," he wrote in the letter that was sent to lawmakers, the President, the Council of Ministers and the EC Representation in Bulgaria.
