The Cherry Festival in Kyustendil: Cherry chutney or cherry banitsa?

The guests at the traditional Cherry Festival in Kyustendil, which is in full swing today, were able to choose from all kinds of exotic cherry delicacies – “cherry relish”, banitsa, quail or fish with cherries, BNR’s Radio Blagoevgrad reports.

The most intriguing of all the cherry dishes on display took part in the “Cherries in the kitchen” contest, in the categories for healthy recipe, innovative cuisine, perfect taste and attractive cherry dish. The gastronomic offerings included cherry chutney with ginger, onion, garlic and apple vinegar, cherry salad with glacé smoked mackerel, honey and coffee, as well as cherry lemonade and sangria.

The cherry desserts were also very popular – French cherry cream and all kinds of cakes, including vintage cakes. Visitors were also able to choose among dozens of different kinds of healthy dishes – made without flour or sugar.
