TPP Maritza East 2 will sell 1 million megawatt-hours of its electricity on the regulated market for a period of one year. This has become clear from an order signed by Minister of Energy Andrey Zhivkov. The goal is avoiding stop of operation of the power plant because of inability to sell its expensive electricity on the free market.
The ministry says that the measure is temporary and is being taken because the TPP is needed to cover domestic consumption. It is yet to be seen what the effect of the minister's order on the price of electricity for households will be. The price is expected to rise by an average of 3% from July 1.
