ITN party wins first mayoral mandate in Blagoevgrad

Ilko Stoyanov from ITN party has won the mayoral run-off in Bulgaria's Blagoevgrad with 55.4% of the vote. He received 10,406 votes. Rumen Tomov, the current mayor, supported by the Bulgarian Socialist Party, collected 40.93% or 7,632 votes. Turnout was 29.28%. 

The GERB-backed independent candidate Andon Todorov was eliminated in the first round on July 27th because he was not recognized by GERB's coalition partner SDS.

"I will be a mayor of dialogue and what I promised most of all, I will be honest,"  Ilko Stoyanov commented.

"There were many signals for vote purchasing, we turned to the police. If the voter turnout was higher, maybe this result would not have been obtained,"  Rumen Tomov commented.
