The 6th Summit of the Three Seas Initiative, hosted by Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev, will take place on July 8th and 9th at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia. The event will be accompanied by a large-scale business forum to which experts, companies, strategic foreign investors and other stakeholders from the region are invited. Nearly 400 participants from Bulgaria and abroad will discuss aspects of transforming energy systems into carbon neutrality, connecting research centres and combining local innovation initiatives.

The role of the Three Seas Initiative for smart and inclusive economic growth will be the focus of a top-level discussion today. It will include the presidents of Bulgaria, Germany, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Slovenia, Croatia's Prime Minister, the deputy prime ministers of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and the Austrian Deputy Foreign Minister. Among the participants in the discussions will be the managing director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva.

Video greetings from US President Joseph Biden and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda are expected. Greek President Katerina Sakelaropoulou will also be a guest of the initiative this year.

The Three Seas initiative brings together 12 EU Member States - Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Romania, and their partners are the United States, Germany and the European Commission. The territorial scope of the countries participating in the Three Seas covers almost one third of the European Union's territory, with 111 million European citizens living in these countries. The aim of the initiative is to promote regional cooperation and sustainable economic growth, leading to accelerated social and economic cohesion in Europe.

Bulgaria took over the coordination role in the "Three Seas" from Estonia in October 2020 at the Tallinn Summit. "During the period of its hosting, Bulgaria will develop the capacity of the initiative as a real tool for cooperation and accelerated development of our region by improving energy, transport and digital connectivity," said President Rumen Radev.
