National Children's Hospital will not be built on old foundations

Bulgaria's Ministry of Healthcare is in the process of terminating the contract for the construction of a National Children's Hospital with a consortium led by Glavbolgarstroy, which was to build it on the foundations of an abandoned construction near the Medical Academy in Sofia. This was announced by the national initiative "For a real children's hospital" on its Facebook page, referring to the Deputy Minister of Health Dimitar Petrov, whose letter was attached to the publication.
The reason for the request for termination of the construction is a prescription of the Ministry of Regional Development that it is not possible to build on top of old foundations. The initiative insists on choosing a new place for the construction of a spacious and modern medical institution, BNR reported.
The builder has not been notified of the termination of the contract, Maya Pencheva, executive director of Glavbolgarstroy, told BNR. "Nothing has been stopped, because if it were so, there would be correspondence, and there is none," Pencheva said.
In a statement to the media, the Ministry of Health clarifies that on July 9, the current Minister of Regional Development officially refused to issue a visa for the design of the children's hospital on the old foundations, which makes it impossible to implement the public procurement. Therefore, the Ministry of Health has taken action to terminate the contract.
