The Specialized Prosecutor's Office is launching an investigation into the record high prices of electricity traded on the energy exchange. Last week, employers' organizations sent a letter to this country’s caretaker Premier Stefan Yanev requesting urgent action on the electricity prices. In August, the price of electricity on the energy exchange in the Day Ahead segment exceeded EUR 205/MWh.

The Specialized Prosecutor's Office requested documents and information from various institutions such as the Ministry of Energy, the Bulgarian Energy Holding and the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX). The State Agency for National Security (SANS) is also expected to undertake inspections.
