The National Assembly ad hoc committee for investigation of police violence during last year’s antigovernment protests recommends that the Head of the National Service for Protection Emi Tonev be dismissed. According to the ad hoc committee, the videos showing police actions during the 2020 protests were deleted by order of Emil Tonev.

The committee also insists that action be taken against Prosecutor Veronika Trifonova and police officers, explained the committee’s chairperson Nikolay Hadzhigenov.

Meanwhile, the coalition "Democratic Bulgaria" called for an emergency sitting of Bulgaria’s Parliament on September 14 to discuss the closure of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office, the Specialized Court and the draft law on the Supreme Judicial Council. The Speaker of the National Assembly Iva Miteva refused to convene such a sitting, because in her words, that would be a breach of the rules of organization and procedure.
