Bulgarian truck driver detained for illegally transporting 55 migrants

A truck driver from Burgas has been detained for illegally transporting 55 migrants across the country. On September 28, 2021, on the Trakia highway, police officers stopped the truck for a routine inspection. When the luggage compartment was opened, 55 foreign nationals were found. The migrants were found to be of Afghan origin, with 23 of them under the age of 16. 
The driver stated that a person unknown to him promised him BGN 150 (about EUR 76) per person for transporting the foreigners to Sofia.
