Bulgarian ship captains show support for their colleagues on "Vera Su"

The Bulgarian Shipmasters’ Association have called for the release of the captain and the second assistant captain of the "Vera Su" ship under house arrest. The reason is the decision of the District Court in Dobrich to impose the most severe measure of restraint "detention in custody" to the two captains of the ship that got stranded on September 20 near the "Yaylata" Reserve.

The association say that with the rise of work intensity combined with the reduction of crews, fatigue has become an increasingly important factor in accidents at sea. The international maritime community has been working for years to decriminalize captains’ work, said the association's chairman, Captain Ivan Tsonev.
