31 October is named International Black Sea Action Day

Fishermen in Bulgaria mark Black Sea Day with a campaign to clean it

Two fishing associations have joined forces in cleaning the Bulgarian Black Sea coast of waste, BNR's Radio Varna reports. Their campaign is dedicated to the International Black Sea Action Day marked on October 31.

The goal of the initiative is to remove at least 15 tonnes of nets, metal and plastic from the sea in just 8 months. Their previous operation covered only the area from Emine to Kaliakra, when more than 7 tonnes of waste were removed from the sea.

The current initiative called "The Most Valuable Catch",will be long-term and the waste from the sea will be recycled. To this end, fishermen's associations need the support of the institutions, and if this time our entire fishing fleet is involved in the clean-up, the next step is to involve at least one more Black Sea country in the cause.
