One third of Bulgarians are not interested in scientific discoveries or technological development, a survey of Eurobarometer shows. It was conducted among 27,000 citizens of the European Union, the Western Balkans and Turkey. Only 18% of the respondents from Turkey, the other EU members and the Western Balkans, are of the same opinion.
52% of Bulgarians believe that viruses are created in laboratories to restrict freedoms and 29% are undecided. Meanwhile, 49% of the respondents disagree or do not understand Charles Darwin's theory. 57% of Bulgarians say that scientific breakthroughs are not important.
Only 11% of the Bulgarian respondents are very interested in scientific topics and 33% of the participants in the poll are not interested at all.
