Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry summons Bulgaria’s ambassador over comment by Rumen Radev

U.S. Embassy Sofia is deeply concerned by the recent statements of Bulgarian President Rumen Radev

From a legal point of view, Crimea belongs to Ukraine and its annexation is in violation of international law. Bulgaria has repeatedly stated its support for its sovereignty and territorial integrity, but, as President Rumen Radev stressed in the election debate, "currently" Crimea is controlled by Russia and it is more than clear that this problem cannot be solved by force. Radev has repeatedly expressed concern over the tense situation surrounding its annexation, which affects both international relations and the Black Sea region, which directly affects the security of Bulgaria and its allies.
Radev has repeatedly called for a reduction in confrontation and a peaceful solution to the conflict.
