The foreign ministers of the 57 countries members of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, OSCE, among them Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Svetlan Stoev, discussed ways to resolve conflicts and apply the OSCE’s three-dimension comprehensive concept of security.
In his address, Bulgaria’s foreign minister stressed that the unresolved conflicts in the region of the OSCE are a serious challenge to European security and a threat to regional stability and development. In his words they need to be resolved on the basis of international law and the principles of territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty of the countries, within the frameworks of the established negotiation formats. Minister Stoev pointed to political will and a willingness to make compromises as an essential condition for this, because the tools are available but efforts should be made to build trust and find durable solutions to the ongoing conflicts.
Minister Stoev emphasized that in the region of the Western Balkans the activities of the OSCE make a significant contribution to the assertion of European standards and values, and help the countries on their way to European integration.
