Omicron - the new variant of the novel coronavirus, may become dominant in Bulgaria within a month, predicts Prof. Iva Hristova, director of the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.

There is still no registered case of the latest Covid variant in Bulgaria.
"This process takes time for the laboratories to send the samples and process them. We have started large-scale sequencing, the results of which are expected within a week", added the virologist.
She explained that Omicron is 200-300% more contagious than the Delta variant, but it is milder. According to Prof. Iva Hristova, many of the mutations in the new variant are common to viruses that cause acute respiratory diseases.
